Principal Designer, SC Collective & Design + Innovation Lead, Techmer PM
An internationally recognized thought leader for progressive design, Shashi Caan has spent her life immersed in the considerations of design and its impact on humanity, our society and culture worldwide. Constantly seeking to integrate her work and thinking within the realms of theory, application and the resultant impacts of design, she continues to research and practice in her innovatively structured, international design firm, The SC COLLECTIVE.
Ms. Caan was a two term global President (2009-2014) and is a Fellow of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI). She is a Fellow of the RSA (Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) and Design Ambassador to the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP). In 2013, she was named Global Advisor to the annual Shanghai Design Festival and named an Honorary Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA). In 2014, she was bestowed Honorary Fellowships by the American Society of Interior Design (ASID) and the British Institute of Design (BID).
In addition to her role at The SC COLLECTIVE, Shashi Caan is the Design and Innovation Lead for Techmer PM. In this role, she helps promote further direct collaboration with designers and acts as a sounding board to the design community as Techmer PM expands its capabilities, developing new tools intended to translate designers’ inspiration into high performance materials.
Shashi Caan holds two masters degrees (in Architecture and Industrial Design) from New York’s Pratt Institute, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (with honors) from the Edinburgh University, in Scotland.
Director, Textile and Apparel Sales at Applied DNA Sciences
Thomas (Tom) Gladtke, Director of Textile Sales, has over 30 years’ experience in the textile and apparel sales, business development and global sourcing. Tom has worked with ginners, spinners, weavers, synthetic and surface coating manufacturers and brand owners from the home textile and apparel industries, with a strong emphasis in supply chain management and quality.
Tom's current responsibilities at Applied DNA Sciences are geared toward collaborating with clients in order to tailor secure marking and authentication solutions and services that can help protect textile products, brands, intellectual property and supply chains from fraud, theft and diversion.
Mr. Gladtke received a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from the University of Bridgeport and an MBA from Farleigh Dickinson University.
Chairman and CEO, Techmer PM
John Manuck is the chairman and CEO of Techmer PM, LLC. He founded the company in Los Angeles, California, in 1981, and it is still a family business with seven manufacturing sites across the United States. His career in the plastics industry spans more than 45 years, 39 of those in color and additive masterbatch. Prior to founding Techmer PM, John held sales and manufacturing positions with Monsanto and Ampacet. In 1987 he established partnerships with Mitsui Plastics and Tokyo Printing Ink Corp. that remain active today.
John is also chairman of Techmer Engineered Solutions (TES), a subsidiary of Techmer PM, LLC, that designs and produces specialty engineering plastic compounds. John is active in college athletics, especially UCLA football and basketball, and sponsors scholarships in engineering and athletics. John and his wife Mary have residences in both California and Tennessee and have two children and four grandchildren.
John has a BS in Chemical Engineering from The Cooper Union School of Engineering & Science and an MS in Management Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Regulatory and Technical Service Manager, Techmer PM
Angie is regulatory and technical service manager for Techmer PM. She has 18 years of experience in the plastic industry where she has held various positions in Product Development, Technical Service and Regulatory.
Technical Specialist, BASF
Jim has been with BASF Corporation for nearly two years now and is enjoying the opportunity to expand his expertise in the areas of High Performance Pigments and Effects Pigments to compliment his background in Polymer Soluble Dyes, Inorganic Pigments and Carbon Black.
Jim serves currently as the Secretary for the Board of Directors for the Color and Appearance Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers.
For more than 30 years, I have been involved in industrial color measurement for the Graphic Arts, Automotive, Paint, Plastic and Textile Industries. I have experience with almost all the commercially available spectrophotometers and software products. My company, Advanced Color Technologies, is a multi-person sales and technical support organization with offices in Greenville SC, Charlotte NC, Dallas TX, Boston MA and Chicago, IL selling highly technical color measurement software and hardware equipment. Our nearly 25-year long record of success has been built upon the relationships we form, the service we provide to our clients, the referrals we receive and the experience and talent we offer!
Vice President, Color Technologies, Techmer PM
Brian West is the vice president, color technologies of Techmer PM. Brian has over 40 years' experience in the field of plastic color compounding, specializing in directing computer color matching systems, colorant technology, and process development.
Brian joined Techmer PM in 1988 as technical manager. He has also held the position of general manager of the eastern region before becoming vice president, color technologies.
Member of Society of Plastics Engineers, serving in Governance of the International Society and as chairman of the Color and Appearance Division, Detroit Color Council, SAE Committee on Color, and ISCC. Not only is Brian one of the founders of the Smoky Mountain Section of SPE, he has served multiple terms as councilor and has served on the International Committee as secretary and North American vice-chairman. Brian has served as a CAD board member for every RETEC since 1992.
Brian has presented at various conferences including ANTEC, INTERTEC, TANDEC, CPMA, Fibertech, Clemson University, University of Tennessee, and Plastic Shipping Container Institute. His paper entitled The SAE/DCC Recommended Practice for Color Difference Measurement was awarded the CAD Best Paper Award at RETEC 1986.
Independent Representative and Consultant for Color Marketing Group
John brings over 30 years of experience in developing and designing wood finishes for residential and kitchen cabinet markets located in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois. His customer base includes Amish and Mennonite family run businesses that produce fine antique reproductions, which carry on the traditions of their ancestors.
John lives and works out of Mechanicsburg, PA, a suburb of Harrisburg, PA.
He currently serves on the executive board of the Color Marketing Group and is its immediate past president.
Color Development Engineer, Techmer PM
Mrs. Kimberly Williamson has worked in the Plastics Industry for nearly 10 years. Her functional experience includes: facilitation, application of Lean manufacturing principles, process optimization and sustainable process improvement. Mrs. Williamson has recently moved from process improvement to color development at Techmer PM and is working alongside Brian West, VP of Color Technologies.
Mrs. Williamson is actively involved in workforce development and benchmarking industry best practices in the East Tennessee area. She helped found a Manufacturing Roundtable where local businesses come together to discuss and improve issues that are common to all members. She also serves as the chair for an advisory board for Pellissippi State Community College where national curriculums are being developed to improve workforce development.
Mrs. Williamson received her education from Berry College and the Georgia Institute of Technology where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Physics and a bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
